Overview
Florida insurers were routinely denying coverage to individuals with ESRD. Our quest was to protect those patients by telling their powerful stories and achieving enactment of guaranteed issue reform over intense opposition.
3-P Strategy
We crafted and managed a comprehensive public affairs campaign featuring:

Policy: Internal, commissioned, and university-validated data analyses; advocacy materials; and draft reform language.

Positioning: Compelling personal stories; intensive earned, social and paid media; reporter briefings; and celebrity spokesperson Alonzo Mourning.

Pursuit: Grassroots and grasstops; coalition of doctors, nurses, patients and advocates; site visits and town halls; lobbying; polling; and a petition.
Outcome
Our bill (renamed The Alonzo Mourning Access to Care Act) was passed by a voice vote and signed by the Governor with Alonzo by his side in our client's center.
